Cudgegong Park was established and developed by using genetics from ‘The Glen’, ‘Willalooka’ and selected Angus sires.
The notable exception to this was the purchase of ‘Mullana CrackerJack’, by ‘The Glen Accelerator’. He has had a strong influence by siring daughters with good fertility and milk, and some of our steer carcase competition winners.
Although showing steers is no longer a priority, at the 1996 Sydney Royal Easter Show our steer by CrackerJack was Champion Japanese Export Carcase Class and at the 1997 Sydney Royal Easter Show, another steer by CrackerJack won the Reserve Champion Middleweight Carcase with the second highest point score of the show. Both carcases scored maximum points for marbling.
The following sires in use are trait leading sires in the Murray Grey and Angus breeds respectively, and along with our cow herd are helping us achieve our goal of producing cattle with moderate birth weight, strong growth to 600/ 900 days, then moderate mature weight and combined with positive carcase traits, particularly marbling. Note that fertility and milking ability is never compromised. (See below).
Only Murray Grey GROUP BREEDPLAN EBVs or Interim EBVs with Accuracy (Acc) can be validly compared between herds, within the Murray Grey Breed. They cannot be compared to another Breeds EBVs including Angus as they have no genetic comparison and start from different bases.
